Demerara Windows

Demerara windows were once found on every street in Guyana. They adorned cottages, mansions, department stores, hospitals, offices and places of business. They are now in demise. Demerara windows are a uniquely Guyanese adaptation to our climate and tradewinds. They draw on local materials and a sophisticated understanding of building design and airflow.

It was a pleasure to host an illustrated talk about Demerara Windows by Wayne McWatt (of the Wooden Architecture (Guyana) Heritage Facebook Group).
