Moray House Trust was once again privileged to host our annual Christmas Concert under the direction of Russel Lancaster, organiser and Master of Ceremonies.
Performers included the Messengers Music Ministry, the Whaul sisters, Georgetown Chamber Chorus, Jennifer Thomas, guitarist Hubert Norville, Andrew Tyndall, violinist Chie Clarke, Winslow Patterson and Mark-Luke Edwards.
The Whaul Sisters are a group of young ladies who have been performing since they were quite young. Members of First Assemblies of God, Wortmanville, they concen- trate on gospel, soul and African music. University graduates in marketing, commu- nication and accounting, they are now pursuing studies in management. They also own and operate their own business – a food establishment called Peachoo.
Hubert Norville is a young singer songwriter with a unique sound. Born and raised in Guyana he is a former student of Queens College and a current medical student. A self-taught guitarist his music is strongly influenced by Motown, jazz, blues and reg- gae. A musician on the cusp of his journey he aspires that one day his expression of music matches his appreciation.
Winslow Patterson is a singer who has been performing for some 50 years. He started in school where sang in the school choir. He later sang with a string band and is now a tenor singer with the Woodside Choir, Korokwa Folk Goup and the Methodist Circuit Choir. A former Youth Officer with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport he now serves as Hall Administrator at the University of Guyana.
Chie Clarke is Japanese violinist who is married to a Guyanese and now lives in Guyana. She currently teaches violin at the Clemsville Conservatory of Music. Since her arrival in Guyana she has performed at numerous events at State House and at the Canadian High Commission.
Andrew Tyndall is one of the country’s leading pannists and was instrumental in the formation of the Parkside Steel Orchestra and Panwave Steel Orchestra. A former student of President’s College, he is currently the Music Development Officer at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport.
Jennifer Thomas is one of Guyana’s most beloved actresses with a number of awards for her contribution to theatre. She is also a director and prolific poet and writer with an abiding love for her country and its unique ambience. She currently serves as the Administrator of the Theatre Guild of Guyana.
Mark Luke-Edwards is a dramatist and performer who has been active on the local theatre scene for the last 5 years. He is also a writer and comedian whose work has been showcased on the National Cultural Centre stage, the Upscale Restaurant and on Radio and Television. He has won the Best Actor Awards at the Theatre Guild of Guyana and the National Drama Festival.
Russel Lancaster is a performer and Radio and Television Personality who has been in the business for over 30 years. He is also a classically trained singer who has performed at State House and other venues across the country. He conducts the Methodist Circuit Choir and sings in the Woodside Choirs International.
The Georgetown Chamber Chorus has been active since April 2010 and has performed in various venues, including St George’s Cathedral, the National Cultural Centre, at national events, at local bars and cafés. In 2011, the Choir was nominated Choral Champion of the Guyana Musical Arts Festival. Built on a solid Western classical tradition, the group explores music from over the centuries: madrigals to jazz, oratorios to gospel, and lieder to calypsos. Composers range from Mozart and Haydn to Stevie Wonder and even Shakira. While adding new songs and performances, the group also continues to receive training in musical theory and vocal techniques.
Justin Thompson is a young, classically trained Guyanese pianist who has successfully completed Grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Piano examinations. He describes himself as a simple individual, with a love for Christmas and a passion for sharing the gift of music. Over the past few years, he has been actively involved in musical performance, accompaniment and tutoring with a number of religious and social organizations. Currently, he performs with groups such as the Georgetown Chamber Chorus, Woodside Choir and the Clemsville Conservatory.
Mark Hall is a piano technician…musician and music producer whose natural talent at the instrument has contributed to his becoming one of the most proficient improvisational local musicians. Having studied both classical and jazz music among other kinds of modern music genres he also arranges and produces many kinds of music for local and foreign artists. He has worked with most of Guyana’s finest and is a composer, song writer and performer.
