Richard Georges is a writer and editor in the British Virgin Islands. He is also their poet laureate. He read and discussed poems by Dionne Brand, Kamau Brathwaite and Lorna Goodison. As many will know, Dionne Brand is a Trinidadian poet and writer, long resident in Canada. Kamua Brathwaite (1930-2020) was a Barbadian poet and scholar, famous for his use of ‘nation-language’. Lorna Goodison is a Jamaican poet and academic who once said of poetry: ‘I didn’t choose poetry – it chose me.’
