Moray House Trust was pleased to collaborate with Stanley Greaves to launch a new series, The Samaan Tree Series, to savour short stories, short talks, memories of Guyana and Guyanese, and to acquire (or to enhance) skills, interests and hobbies. This is a new venture by the Trust aimed at those with curious minds and a little free time during the day. We will offer taster sessions fortnightly for the next few months and assess how best to proceed in the new year.
It was an honour to start the taster sessions with a talk by the well-known artist, poet and teacher, Stanley Greaves, titled ‘Looking as Awareness’. Stanley collaborates regularly with Moray House Trust to share his knowledge and insights about Guyanese culture. This talk stemmed from his conviction that we should be taught how to look, in the same way as we are taught how to read or how to write or how to add. He intended to illustrate some of the skills required.
The event followed the usual MHT format: a short talk followed by a Q&A segment.
