What will oil do for Guyana ?

Activity: Panel presentation and discussion
Date: Wednesday 23rd May 2018
Host: Moray House Trust

It was, perhaps, appropriate that this panel discussion (‘What will oil do for Guyana ?’) should be interrupted by a blackout. That was, in itself, an eloquent statement about a country blessed with the so-called six sisters (sugar, bauxite, rice, gold, diamonds and timber) to support its economy. As we celebrate over half a century of independence, we apparently still cannot satisfy a basic metric for economic development, namely a stable and reliable supply of electricity.

Moray House Trust extends warm thanks to the speakers, Collin Constantine, Melinda Janki and Tarron Khemraj and to the moderator, Ms Joycelyn Williams. Thanks to members of the press corps and broadcast media for transmitting the event and to our audience.
