Artist’s impression of new Demerara Harbour Bridge

Moray House Trust extends warm thanks to Mr Rawlston Adams (of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation), Mr Robeson Benn and Mr Joe Holder for participating in the recent panel discussion, ‘Bridging the Demerara Harbour – Then and Now’.

In his presentation, Joe Holder outlined the process leading up to the construction of the existing Demerara Harbour Bridge and some of the challenges encountered in the course of its existence. Robeson Benn argued for a new bridge to be used alongside the existing bridge and also highlighted importance of a roll-on/roll-off vessel and water taxis to ease the volume of traffic on the bridge. Rawlston Adams discussed the options considered in terms of bridge design (high-level, low-level) and also the locations – Houston, New Hope and Peter’s Hall.

Sincere thanks to Stuart Hughes who moderated the panel.
The audience was substantial and the questions extensive.

The aim of these panel events is to encourage debate and discussion about the topic and, where possible, to give voice to different perspectives.

Video clips will be posted in due course.
