The East Demerara Water Conservancy is one of the major water conservancy systems in the country, located in Demerara – Mahaica.
It serves two purposes: flood control and water supply (irrigating about 17,900ha of farmland located around it and also supplying potable water in the area). It has an estimated catchment area of 582 sq km.
Bert Carter, civil engineer, discussed issues of water management, infrastructure maintenance and irrigation in the course of his presentation.
Clips from the presentation will be posted shortly.
