Waldyke (Wally) Prince

An avid birder, Wally has visually identified more than 700 of the 800+ bird species recorded in Guyana. He is also familiar with their habitats, behaviors, vocalizations, and mating rituals. He grew up wandering through the Interior, and boasts unparalleled expertise on the country’s fish, amphibian, reptile, insect, and floral populations. Wally is one of the most sought-after guides for professional birders, documentary teams, and scientific expeditions visiting Guyana.

Wally worked for several years as the guide coordinator, resident wildlife biologist, chief trainer, and operations manager at Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development.

Waldyke (Wally) Prince outlined the possibilities for birding tourism in Guyana. With close to 900 species of birds in Guyana, including 284 in Georgetown, this is more of a realistic prospect than some might imagine. It is our forest cover, Prince explained, which makes Guyana an ideal habitat for birds and a particular lure for parrot lovers.
